Terrele Griffin, 27, was fatally shot in Chicago on November 2, 2016. His death occurred during one of the deadliest years the city had seen in decades, when homicides spiked to 764 and roughly 90 percent involved firearms. Griffin’s killing is presented as part of a broader surge in gun violence that disproportionately affected certain neighborhoods and was linked to factors such as gang conflicts, proliferation of illegal firearms, and socio-economic pressures.
Police and city officials increased resources and launched initiatives to address the crisis, but the rapid rise in fatal shootings and other violent crimes made those efforts difficult to overcome. The loss of young people like Terrele added to the profound impact on communities already coping with cycles of violence and retaliation.
If anyone knew Terrele or has information about the shooting, please come forward to help the investigation.
