On the morning of July 11, 2014, two bodies were found inside a home on Cowboy Drive in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The victims were 62-year-old Anthony Branch and 58-year-old Deborah Moncrief, neighbors remembered as friendly and often seen walking their dogs. Investigators described the killings as a targeted act of violence and said they believed money was the motive.

Within a day police located William Cody Childress, 21, of Mississippi, who was engaged to Deborah Moncrief’s niece, Jessica Moncrief. After an interview, Childress reportedly led officers to the weapon believed to have been used; he was arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder and held without bond. Authorities said they believed he acted alone.

What did neighbors or family members notice in the days before July 11 that might help explain the motive?
