On March 14, 1982, Sergeant James R. Hand, 47, was shot and killed at the Pocahontas Police Station in Pocahontas, Arkansas. A juvenile concealed in a nearby tree opened fire on the station with a high-powered rifle, fatally wounding Sergeant Hand. Another officer at the station returned fire and killed the juvenile assailant at the scene.

Sergeant Hand, a White / Caucasian male, was survived by his wife and three children. Because the only suspect died at the scene, there were no arrests or trials following the shooting.

Does anyone have memories of Sergeant Hand or information about that day that could shed light on the motive?
