Sebastian Olavarria, 28, was shot and killed in Waterbury, Connecticut, on August 13, 2022. He was found with gunshot wounds around 1:40 a.m. outside Mikey’s Jamaican Restaurant on East Main Street and later died at a hospital. Olavarria had graduated from Crosby High School in 2012, was studying criminal justice at Naugatuck Valley Community College, and worked as a warehouse distributor for BJ’s Wholesalers. Family remembered him for his outgoing personality, his smile, his devotion to his children and fiancée, his love of dancing, and being a New York Yankees fan.
Authorities identified the restaurant owner, 61-year-old Michael Anderson, as the alleged shooter after an altercation outside the establishment. Anderson was taken into custody by the Waterbury Police Department and charged with murder, first-degree reckless endangerment, and unlawful discharge of a firearm; he was held on $2 million bond. Reports say Anderson had a valid pistol permit and was a former police officer in Jamaica, and that he and Olavarria had a history of conflict as tenants in the same building. Surveillance footage from the restaurant is reported to be central evidence in the case.
Did anyone in the Waterbury area know Sebastian, his routine around East Main Street, or have information about that night?
