Devante Echols, 24, was found with a gunshot wound to the head on Bronson Street in Waterbury, Connecticut, on the evening of July 10, 2021. Officers responding to a weapons complaint shortly before 8 p.m. discovered Echols and a firearm next to him; he was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
Investigators say an argument between Echols and other individuals escalated into the shooting near 19 Bronson Street, an incident investigators tied to a turf dispute related to drug activity. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses reportedly captured many of the details. The department’s Major Crime Division identified two suspects days later.
Kyshone Jackson, 45, was arrested and charged with murder, criminal possession of a pistol or revolver, and reckless endangerment; police say Jackson, a convicted felon, passed a handgun to his mother during a vehicle stop and she was found with the weapon. A second suspect, Bobby Cooke, 54, was also arrested and charged with murder and multiple weapons offenses. Both were held on $3 million bond. Does anyone have additional information about what happened that night or knew Devante?
