On the evening of May 30, 2021, 18-year-old Semaj Reddick-Streater of Hamden, Connecticut, was shot and later pronounced dead at Yale New Haven Hospital; his death was ruled a homicide. A new father and an ACES Whitney North High School senior, he was described as kind, soft-spoken, and respectful, with plans to start a business and travel overseas with his mother.
Surveillance footage shows a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee following Reddick-Streater for several blocks before the vehicle stopped near the Minute Mart on Circular Avenue just before 9 p.m. Gunfire came from the rear passenger side; police later recovered the Jeep and found a partially-smoked cannabis cigar in the rear passenger-side door. Forensic testing matched a DNA profile from that cigar to Lamont Quadir Smith-Reed. An informant told investigators three people were in the vehicle during the shooting, including Smith-Reed and two teens ages 14 and 16.
Does anyone have information about Semaj, his routine that evening, or the vehicle seen on the surveillance footage?
