Taevan Moshier was 17 and a senior at John F. Kennedy High School when he was shot and killed in Waterbury, Connecticut early on January 22, 2021. A student-athlete who played basketball and football, Moshier was with a group of teenagers on Esther Avenue who were allegedly waiting to rob another 17-year-old male. When that intended target arrived to visit a female acquaintance, a fight erupted and multiple gunshots were fired from at least two handguns. Moshier was struck in the chest; he was taken to Waterbury Hospital and pronounced dead shortly before 1 a.m. The official cause of death was a gunshot wound to the torso.
Waterbury police arrested six juvenile suspects, all 16 or 17, on charges including murder, robbery and assault. The alleged shooter, the 17-year-old who had been the robbery target, was charged with murder, tampering with evidence and illegal sale or transfer of a firearm; the juveniles charged remain unnamed because of their ages. What information might help piece together the motives and sequence of events that night?
