Angel Pichardo, 41, was shot and killed in the pre-dawn hours of October 8, 2020, after leaving his shift at a Macy’s Distribution Center in Cheshire. His red Ford Explorer was stopped at a traffic light at Wolcott Road and Center Street when another vehicle pulled up alongside and multiple shots were fired into his SUV. Pichardo managed to drive a short distance before the vehicle left the road and stopped in a wooded area. Emergency services found him alone in the car; he was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. The medical examiner ruled the cause of death a gunshot wound to the torso and classified the death as a homicide.
Investigators described the attack as targeted: the driver’s side of the SUV was riddled with bullets, and authorities have said the shooting appears gang-related, possibly retaliatory and aimed at a family member rather than Pichardo himself. The Wolcott Police, Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Division, and the FBI Gang Task Force recovered the murder weapon and identified a person of interest who is incarcerated on unrelated charges; other possible participants are also reportedly behind bars. No arrests have been announced for the homicide. Anyone with information about that morning or the people involved is urged to come forward.
