The early morning of September 24, 2020, in the Black Rock neighborhood of Bridgeport, Connecticut, ended in gunfire. Jorge Indio Tirado, 36, was driving a burnt-orange Saturn Vue when multiple rounds struck the SUV; the vehicle then crashed into a tree at Canfield Avenue and Fox Street. Police who arrived shortly before 8 a.m. found Tirado slumped over the driver’s seat with a fatal gunshot wound to his back. Investigators recovered 17 spent shell casings on Fox Street.
Witnesses reported seeing the shooter wearing a sweatshirt with the logo of a local landscaping company. Detectives contacted the company and learned an employee, Ricardo Torres, had called in after the shooting saying he had a problem and would not be coming to work. Torres was arrested on October 20, 2020, and charged with murder, criminal possession of a firearm, and carrying a pistol without a permit. Tirado, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, was remembered as a loyal, giving, and friendly man who loved baseball and cars and was a devoted father, son, brother, and friend.
If anyone in Black Rock that morning saw the shooter, the vehicle before the crash, or other activity on Fox Street, please come forward with information.
