Khalil Sloan-Diaz was 17 when he was shot and killed on Friday afternoon, May 13, 2016, while sitting in a silver Audi at Madison Avenue and Grand Street in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The midday shooting was described by authorities as likely gang-related and tied to an ongoing feud between youth from the Greene Homes and Trumbull Gardens housing projects. Police later said a large quantity of crack cocaine was found on his person; friends and family disputed claims he was involved in gang activity.
Two youth bureau detectives happened to be nearby when shots were fired; they saw the shooter flee, chased him, and arrested 19-year-old Deonte Tomlinson behind a church. Officers recovered the firearm used in the killing and clothing the suspect tried to discard. Tomlinson was charged with murder, carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and altering identification marks on a firearm. The case went to trial and in June 2018 a jury found Tomlinson guilty of murder and carrying a pistol without a permit.
Did anyone in Bridgeport know Khalil or have information about the Greene Homes–Trumbull Gardens feud that might shed more light on what happened that day?
