Dow Kling, 22, died on Sunday, November 3, 2013, in a Mill Street apartment in Waterbury, Connecticut, after suffering a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. The shooting occurred during what has been described as reckless gun play between friends and roommates: Dow and his lifelong friend and roommate, 22-year-old Shawn French, were taking turns pointing a .22 caliber Ruger at one another and pulling the trigger, believing the gun held only blanks. A live round was chambered when French aimed at Kling and fired, killing him.
Witnesses said French was visibly distraught after the shooting and gave inconsistent and false accounts at first, including claims of an intruder and that Kling had shot himself, before admitting he believed the firearm contained blanks and that Kling had encouraged him to pull the trigger. French was arrested and charged with first-degree manslaughter and first-degree reckless endangerment and released on $25,000 bond. He later pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to two years in prison.
If anyone knew Dow, his routines, or has information about that day in November 2013, please share what you know.
