On the evening of September 12, 1996, a parked blue Toyota Camry on Grenhart Road in Stamford, Connecticut, yielded a terrible discovery. Eighteen-year-old Rhonda Johnson and her six-month-old son Corán Johnson were found dead inside the car; both had suffered gunshot wounds to the head. Rhonda had been a recent high school graduate attending community college while working part time at Stamford Hospital. She had picked Corán up from his babysitter about 3:30 p.m. that day and was expected to meet her mother at the hospital but never arrived.
A woman walking her dog found the car and the bodies around 8:00 p.m. that evening. Investigators collected fingerprints and DNA from the vehicle and pursued multiple leads. Early in the inquiry a person of interest was identified as Corán’s father, Andre Messam, but no charges have ever been filed.
The case remains unsolved; anyone with information about Rhonda or Corán’s deaths is urged to come forward.
