In the pre-dawn hours of April 12, 1987, 25-year-old Milford Police Officer Daniel Scott Wasson was killed during a traffic stop on the Boston Post Road near the Orange line. A U.S. Air Force veteran who had served two years with the department and earned three commendations, Wasson was on patrol with his K-9 partner General when he stopped a vehicle for what appeared to be an expired registration around 2:30 a.m.

After radioing in the plate number and approaching the car, he was struck once in the chest by a .44 caliber handgun and later pronounced dead at Yale New Haven Hospital shortly after 3:00 a.m. General was found unharmed in the patrol car.Around 25 minutes after the shooting, 33-year-old Thomas Hoyesen was arrested by Bridgeport officers and found with the murder weapon missing one bullet.

Wasson’s memory has been honored locally with a named connector road, a ball field, the retirement of badge number 60, and his locker, number 43, kept empty at the Milford Police Department.Have any readers who lived in the area at the time or knew Officer Wasson or his family recollections to share about him or the incident?
