Clinton Burrows, a 59-year-old White man who lived with and cared for his mother in Ogden, Utah, was shot and killed on the night of June 12, 2022. He was found in the roadway on Patterson Street with two gunshot wounds after what investigators say began as an attempted robbery. Burrows was described as friendly and nonaggressive by those who knew him.

Police traced Burrows’ stolen phone after the shooting; its location history showed it had been taken to Davis County. A tip on July 7 identified Erik Orozco Sanches as the shooter, and phone-location information for Sanches matched the path of Burrows’ phone. Officers arrested 19-year-old Sanches; he reportedly admitted to taking part in the robbery and shooting, said the victim resisted, and said he destroyed Burrows’ phone. Investigators recovered a 9 mm handgun Sanches reportedly identified as the weapon used. A second 19-year-old, Eric Aparicio, was arrested based on Sanches’ statement. Both men were charged with aggravated murder and aggravated robbery.
