A family hunting outing in the snowy hills near Echo, Utah, ended in tragedy on January 31, 2022, when 58-year-old Lynette Fagg Billeter of Sandy was fatally wounded by a single gunshot. Lynette was seated in the passenger seat of a stationary side-by-side ATV when a hunting rifle resting on the bench beside her discharged and struck her in the pelvic area. Emergency services were summoned about 11:00 a.m. after a family member located cell service; deputies from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office and a Utah Highway Patrol trooper arrived first and medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but Lynette died at the scene before an air transport could occur. Investigators concluded the shooting was a tragic accident; no arrests or suspects have been named.

Lynette was a wife, mother, grandmother and paraeducator in the Canyons School District, remembered for crafting t-shirts, scrapbooking and for her long marriage of over 40 years. If anyone was on that hunt or has information about what happened that day, please share what you know.
