Matthew Wayne Young, 49, was found dead on his property in the small community of Church Wells, Utah, near Kanab on April 13, 2021. Bates was charged with murder, two counts of discharging a firearm causing serious injury, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm by a restricted person. The motive has not been released.
