On the afternoon of June 13, 2018, 23-year-old Denero Lamar Snider was shot in a parking lot on the 600 block of 23rd Street in Ogden, Utah. Paramedics transported him to a hospital after police found him with gunshot wounds, but he died of his injuries. Investigators called the shooting an isolated incident and described the victim and shooter as acquaintances.

Authorities identified Keshawn Mykel Puente as a person of interest and later located and arrested him in Las Vegas. Puente was extradited to Utah and charged with murder in January 2019. Prosecutors say witnesses saw two men arguing, then one man retrieve a gun and fire multiple shots. The shooter allegedly fled in a silver Hyundai Veloster with a female passenger; that vehicle was later found abandoned in North Las Vegas.

Several witnesses could not definitively identify Puente in a photo lineup. The prosecution planned testimony from the woman who was in the car with the shooter about hearing gunshots and leaving with the suspect.
