Leroy Swift Eagle Murray, 28, died on August 13, 2016, from gunshot wounds sustained on the Uintah-Ouray Indian Reservation. Born February 22, 1988, in Roosevelt, Utah, he lived in Randlett and died at the University of Utah Hospital. He worked as a roustabout in the oilfield and in construction and was remembered for his sense of humor, teasing his nieces and nephews, a love of the outdoors, hunting, riding 4-wheelers and a background as a junior bull rider.
Family time, including outings with his father at Sundances, was important to him. A federal grand jury later indicted Trent Sowsonicut in connection with the shooting; Sowsonicut pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and received a 78-month federal prison sentence.
Does anyone have information about Murray’s last movements on the reservation or witnessed the shooting?
