Taiwan Marcus Jackson Jr., a 20-year-old Black man, was fatally shot in Dubuque, Iowa, on the evening of June 4, 2022. Family and friends remembered him as passionate, intelligent, caring, and funny — someone whose personality could light up a room.
The shooting led to an investigation and the arrest of Keywani D. Evans of Freeport, Illinois, who was charged with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery. At a weeklong trial in Dubuque County prosecutors called more than two dozen witnesses as part of their case. In May 2024 a jury convicted Evans of both counts.
The conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison under Iowa law. If anyone knew Taiwan Marcus Jackson Jr. or has information about the events of June 4, 2022, please come forward.
