A June 1, 2021 gathering at a residence on 250th Street in rural Salix, Iowa, ended in deadly violence when 40-year-old Russell Mohr, a White man from nearby Mapleton, was shot and killed. Deputies from the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office found Mohr’s body in the front yard and located a woman at the scene who had a gunshot wound to her leg; she was taken to a Sioux City hospital.

Investigators were given information that the suspect fled in a red Volkswagen. Officers later found that vehicle on Highway 141 and arrested the driver, 20-year-old Marvin Hildreth Jr., without incident. Hildreth was charged with second-degree murder in Mohr’s death and with going armed with intent.

Mohr was described as a loving father and a jack of all trades. What information do readers have about the events at the house that evening or the people who were there?
