A March 2016 party on the Umatilla Indian Reservation ended with gunfire that killed 27-year-old Anthony Tony Jimenez of Pendleton, Oregon. The gathering at Beau Welch’s home on March 17th turned violent in the early hours of March 19th when an altercation began as Jimenez and Welch tried to remove people described as members of a rival gang. Jimenez was struck in the head and later died; Welch was shot in the lower leg and survived.
Investigators from tribal police and the FBI handled the complex probe because the crime occurred on tribal land and Jimenez was a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. Authorities arrested Victor Contreras of California and charged him federally with crimes related to the shooting of Welch, but the county prosecutor initially said there was insufficient evidence to link Contreras directly to Jimenez’s death. Federal filings later charged Julian Daryl Simpson with first-degree murder in Jimenez’s death, and Victor Joseph Contreras was indicted on multiple counts tied to the incident.
Jimenez was described as a son, father, and brother who worked as a certified welder. Does anyone have information about that night or about people who attended the party?
