On the evening of May 14, 2021, 32-year-old Joseph Pauline went to the Richdale Food Market on Brock Avenue in New Bedford, Massachusetts, with another man named Johnny Santos. Around 6:45 p.m. they were approached in the parking lot by a group of four men after a dispute reportedly over a $150 debt Santos owed for a pair of shoes. The confrontation escalated when Anthony Rosario allegedly punched Santos and Malique Smith then pulled out a handgun and fired at Pauline.
First responders found Pauline with a gunshot wound to the neck; he was taken to Saint Luke’s Hospital and pronounced dead at 7:44 p.m. The investigation led to three suspects being detained for questioning the following weekend. Christopher Boyer, 19, and Anthony Rosario, 20, were taken into custody; Boyer was later charged with being an accessory after the fact and Rosario with assault and battery to collect a loan. On June 8, 2021, 20-year-old Malique Smith was arrested in Fall River and charged with murder, carrying an illegal firearm, and carrying a loaded illegal firearm. Surveillance footage identified a fourth man at the scene as Tyvon Martin.
Does anyone have information about Tyvon Martin’s role that could help piece together what happened that night?
