On April 20, 2021, gunfire rang out on North Street in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. At about 6:18 p.m., multiple 911 calls and a ShotSpotter activation brought officers to the sidewalk in front of the Family Dollar at 631 North Street, where 39-year-old Lemond Grady was found with gunshot wounds. He was taken to Berkshire Medical Center and later died of his injuries.

Grady, originally from Lake County, Florida, had lived in Pittsfield since he was young. A father of three, he worked as a laborer for local construction companies and was known in his family as a skilled woodworker. Those who knew him described him as happy and giving, and he had practiced the Muslim faith in the years before his death.

Pittsfield Police, assisted by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office, obtained a suspect description and arrested 34-year-old Edward Jennings on nearby Lincoln Street. Jennings was charged with first-degree murder; an indictment and a Superior Court arraignment were later scheduled. Does anyone who knew Lemond or was in that area on April 20 have information to share?
