Luis Bebo Rafael Ramos, 31, of Springfield, Massachusetts, was shot late on the night of March 11, 2021 and died in hospital in the early hours of March 12, 2021. Police responded first to reports of shots fired in Chicopee near Springfield and Walton Streets; officers later found Ramos inside a single vehicle at the intersection of Springfield and Cunningham Streets in Springfield with apparent gunshot wounds. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide.

An eight-month investigation was led by the Chicopee Police Department with support from the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office and the Hampden DA’s Murder Unit. Investigators executed eleven search warrants and used multiple techniques that resulted in identifying a suspect. On November 8, 2021 an arrest warrant was issued for Almando Diaz, 39, of Springfield; he was taken into custody that day and charged with first-degree murder and held without bail, with a next court date set for December 6, 2021.
