Bryan Omar Mendez, 25, was shot and killed in Lynn, Massachusetts, during the early morning of January 4, 2020. Found with multiple gunshot wounds at the intersection of Howard and Lander streets shortly after 5 a.m., he was taken to Salem Hospital where he died. The confrontation began when a man tried to rob Mendez of his jewelry outside an after-hours party; when Mendez tried to flee he was chased and shot.
Lynn police, the Essex County District Attorney’s Office, and Massachusetts State Police identified 34-year-old Derell Guy of Lynn as the primary suspect. A warrant charging Guy with murder and armed robbery was issued, and after being placed on the state’s Most Wanted list he was located and arrested in Maine on July 28, 2020, following a manhunt. Guy was tried in January 2023; on January 24 a jury convicted him of first-degree murder and armed robbery on theories including extreme atrocity and cruelty and felony murder.
If anyone knew Bryan, his routines, or witnessed the events that night, can you share what you remember?
