On October 19, 2019, 17-year-old Paul Collazo-Ruiz was shot and killed while walking with a friend near Tallman Street in New Bedford, Massachusetts. The shooting happened around 7 p.m. and left the community mourning a young life cut short.
Investigators identified several suspects during the probe. Two men, Mauricio Pineda and 22-year-old Kevin Edwards of Fall River, were linked to the case. Edwards was indicted on charges of murder and assault and battery by discharge of a firearm as part of a larger indictment that named multiple defendants tied to the incident and a related Fall River shooting. Both Pineda and Edwards later pleaded guilty to roles connected to Paul’s death.
Paul’s family, who asked to remain anonymous, spoke to NBC 10 News about their loss and the pain of his sudden death. Any readers with information about Paul or the events that night are asked to come forward.
