Late on May 24, 2019, 32-year-old Earl Thomas of New Bedford was in a parking lot on Highland Street in Brockton when the city’s automated gunshot detection system and multiple 911 callers alerted police just before 11:30 p.m. Officers and emergency personnel found Thomas suffering from four gunshot wounds and he was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He was a father of three and worked as a skilled union mason and stone restorer.
Investigators quickly focused on a suspect identified as 29-year-old Queito Miranda of Brockton. The shooting reportedly followed an altercation between Thomas and another person who was with Miranda; after the fight Miranda fired several shots at Thomas. An arrest warrant was issued and Miranda was located in Worcester and taken into custody on May 26, 2019. He was charged with murder and related firearms offenses, and a jury later convicted him of second-degree murder and the firearms charges. Miranda was sentenced to 20 years to life for the killing of Earl Thomas.
Did anyone in Brockton or New Bedford know Earl Thomas or have information about the events that night?
