On the night of April 7, 2018, 24-year-old Kelby A. Ramos of Brockton, Massachusetts, was found in a crashed vehicle on Woodlawn Avenue after multiple 911 calls for shots fired. Responding officers discovered the car showed damage consistent with a shooting and Ramos with gunshot wounds; he was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital and pronounced dead. Ramos, born November 1, 1993, was a Brockton High School graduate who enjoyed working on cars, repairing computers, drawing, and spending time with his young daughter.
Brockton Police and Massachusetts State Police Detectives with the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office investigated. In December 2020 a Plymouth County Grand Jury returned indictments against Samuel Mathieu, then 24, of Brockton, charging him with Murder, Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Dwelling; Mathieu was already in federal custody on unrelated charges at that time.
Did anyone who knew Kelby or who was in the Woodlawn Avenue area that night see or hear anything that could help this case?
