On the morning of August 6, 2017, 34-year-old Pedro Carillo was fatally shot at a Curwin Circle apartment complex in Lynn, Massachusetts. The shooting occurred about 1:54 a.m. while Carillo was speaking with his mother; a man approached and opened fire, killing him in front of her.

Carillo’s mother pursued the shooter, stepping over her son’s body, but her chase ended when she was struck by a vehicle and suffered knee injuries. Authorities later arrested two men in connection with the killing: Ernest Edwards, 36, of Quincy, and Philip Thompson, 30, of Haverhill. Thompson was arrested in Boston and held without bail; Edwards was taken into custody in Quincy and was to be arraigned in Lynn District Court.
