On October 28, 2016, at about 10:15 p.m. police were called to an apartment on Breed Square in Lynn, Massachusetts, where 38-year-old Donald Yancy was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head and pronounced dead at the scene. A lifelong Lynn resident, Yancy was known as Double Dee and remembered for his smile and his knack for telling a funny story.

Investigators quickly identified a suspect. The Essex County District Attorney’s Office obtained an arrest warrant for 29-year-old Sean Chandler of Gloucester; witnesses said Chandler and Yancy were known to one another and had been involved in an argument immediately before the shooting. Police described Chandler as armed and dangerous while he was being sought.

Officers located Chandler a few days later at an apartment on Eastern Avenue in Lynn and arrested him without incident; he was found in possession of a 9mm handgun. He was arraigned in Lynn District Court on murder and multiple firearm-related charges and pleaded not guilty; a judge ordered him held without bail.
