Philip Russo, 24, was killed in the early morning hours of July 11, 2016, after a party in his Kingsley Terrace apartment in Lynn, Massachusetts. A verbal dispute between Russo and another man, Edwin Flores, moved outside and became physical before Russo went back into his apartment. Witnesses said Flores called a friend, Michael Tate, to bring a gun. Tate arrived armed; as Russo ran into the street, Tate chased him on foot while Flores followed. Tate fired one shot. Russo collapsed near an MBTA bus on Chestnut Street near Mason Street and was taken to Lynn Union Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators sealed off the entrance to a Kingsley Terrace home where the door was stained with blood from the earlier altercation. The probe led to arrests: Michael Tate, then 28, was charged with murder, and Edwin Flores, then 24, was later arrested and charged as well. The killing was described as not random, and the neighborhood was left shaken by the violence.
Did anyone at the party or nearby that morning see more of what happened on Chestnut Street or know the sequence of events that led up to the shooting?
