In the early morning hours of August 10, 2014, two brothers were killed during a violent home invasion on Andrews Street in Lowell, Massachusetts. Police responding about 2:37 a.m. found 35-year-old Keith Callahan dead at the scene; his younger brother Joseph Callahan, 29, was taken to Lowell General Hospital and later died of his wounds. Neighbors reported hearing a barrage of bullets after an intruder threatened a female occupant and demanded to see someone who was not there.

Investigators released a sketch of a suspect described as an Asian man with a thin build, long goatee, and dark hair in a ponytail. DNA from a cigarette butt in the bathroom matched Dara Poum, who was later arrested on an unrelated warrant. Sneakers hidden in a Chelsea residence tested positive for Keith Callahan’s blood, and the firearm used was recovered buried near the girlfriend’s father’s home; ballistics tied it to the shootings. Poum was convicted by a Lowell Superior Court jury on two counts of first-degree murder and related charges on September 25, 2019.
