On April 11, 2014, 20-year-old Elson G. Miranda, a Black / African American man, was shot and killed inside the Lithuanian Family Restaurant (The Lit Restaurant) on Ames Street in Brockton, Massachusetts. Shortly before 12:30 p.m., a man with his face obscured entered through a rear door, walked directly to Miranda and shot him multiple times in the neck and chest. Miranda was taken to Signature Healthcare Hospital and pronounced dead; the Office of the State Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death gunshot wounds and classified it a homicide.
Investigators from the Brockton Police and State Police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office developed a suspect, Kierft Noel, after learning Noel and Miranda had a history of confrontations. Evidence at trial included witness testimony and physical evidence such as sneaker imprints found near the scene that matched Noel. Noel was taken into custody on April 29, 2014, on an unrelated warrant and later tried in Brockton Superior Court.
A jury found Kierft Noel guilty of first-degree murder and related firearms charges; he received life in prison without the possibility of parole for Miranda’s murder. Did anyone who knew Elson or who was in that neighborhood on April 11, 2014, see anything that could still help clarify the events that day?
