In the early morning hours of Labor Day, September 5, 2011, 16-year-old Maxariel Max Ariel Montanez was shot to death in his South Lawrence, Massachusetts home. A student at Greater Lawrence Technical High School enrolled in the auto body program and a member of the wrestling and football teams, he was described as a shy, serious young man with clear goals for his future.
Police were called about 2 a.m. after a neighbor encountered a distressed man who said something terrible had happened inside an apartment in the Beacon Projects. Officers forced entry at 15 Maginnis St. and found Maxariel and his mother, 39-year-old Milka Rivera, and sister, 19-year-old Sachary Montanez, all fatally shot in an upstairs bedroom. Jose Luis Tejada, Rivera’s boyfriend, identified himself to the neighbor and to police as the person who had harmed the family; a .357 Magnum revolver was recovered in the grass behind the building.
Did anyone in Lawrence at the time remember Maxariel, his family, or the Maginnis Street building?
