On the morning of January 21, 2010, in Brockton, Massachusetts, siblings Jorge DePina and his sister Maria were found fatally shot in their second-floor Nilsson Street apartment. Jorge, 30, a Black male of Cape Verdean descent, was killed in his bed; he suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head, neck, and torso. Maria was shot in the back of the head after being awakened and encountering the intruder in a hallway.
Investigators traced the attack to John V. Monteiro of Rhode Island. The inquiry found that Monteiro had forced entry into the apartment. He later sold the firearm used in the killings to an FBI informant; ballistics and DNA testing matched that weapon to the murders. A jury convicted Monteiro of two counts of first-degree murder plus unlawful possession of a firearm and armed home invasion, and he received life sentences without parole.
Did anyone in Brockton at the time have information about activity near Nilsson Street that morning?
