Paul Mullen, 37, was shot to death on the morning of December 2, 2005, in Brockton, Massachusetts. Described as a devoted father, fiancé and friend who enjoyed golf, cooking and fishing with his sons, Mullen was killed after leaving a nightclub with an acquaintance, Thomas A. Woods. The men planned to meet later to smoke marijuana; when Woods went into a Hess station convenience store, two masked men approached the car and one of them shot Mullen eight times. Woods then returned, moved Mullen’s body to the ground and drove away.

Investigators interviewed Woods and he testified before a grand jury. He was indicted in October 2006 for first degree murder. A jury later found Woods guilty, concluding he had orchestrated the killing as part of a joint venture, and he was sentenced to life in prison for his role in Mullen’s death.
