Manuel Araujo, 21, was shot to death on May 25, 1994, in Brockton, Massachusetts. He had driven from Boston to Brockton with his brother Carlos and their friend Kepler Desir. At Desir’s direction they picked up Russell J. Horton and Frederick Christian, then moved to a nearby school parking lot after an aborted plan to rob local drug dealers.

According to trial evidence, gunfire erupted inside the car without warning. Manuel and Desir were killed by single gunshot wounds to the head; Carlos was struck in the head, survived, and sought help. Witness testimony and physical evidence tied Horton and Christian to the back seat moments before the shooting and to clothing stained with Manuel’s blood. Only a small amount of cash remained on Desir, supporting a robbery motive.

Horton was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and assault with intent to murder; Christian was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder on a felony-murder theory. Both convictions were upheld on appeal. Are there witnesses or family members who can add details about Manuel’s life or that night?
