Late on Friday night, February 26, 2021, a dispute in Deming, New Mexico, between two men escalated into gunfire that killed 24-year-old Hispanic male Irvinn Villalba. The men had a confrontation that moved to a dirt parking lot in the 300 block of West Pine Street. As the vehicle carrying Villalba was leaving the lot, shots were fired; Villalba was struck and taken to Mimbres Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:41 a.m. on February 27, 2021.

Deming police were notified of a gunshot patient at the hospital at 11:22 p.m. the night of the shooting. Detectives spent the following five days interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence and identified a suspect. Twenty-five-year-old Carlos Valenzuela Jr. was arrested and charged with an open count of murder in Villalba’s death. He also faced charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at or from a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm by a felon, tampering with evidence, and had an outstanding arrest order for a probation violation.

Are there witnesses or anyone with information about the events in the 300 block of West Pine Street that night who can help investigators?
