On April 20, 2019, a deadly shooting at a house party in the El Cerro Mission area of Valencia County near Los Lunas left three men dead: 40-year-old Darrin Bernal, 29-year-old Joseph Santiago, and 28-year-old Nathan Morrison. Initial witness statements and investigators pointed to 17-year-old Anthony Williams as the person who fired a shotgun three times, striking the three victims.

Hours after the bodies were found, police arrested Williams, 19-year-old Robert Wilson, and 18-year-old Brandon Dowdy and charged them with first-degree murder and conspiracy. Defense motions later claimed the defendants acted in self-defense and said others had fired a .45-caliber handgun during the altercation. After pre-trial interviews and further review, the District Attorney concluded the evidence was insufficient to prove first-degree murder beyond a reasonable doubt and negotiated plea agreements: Williams pleaded to voluntary manslaughter with release pending his 21st birthday; Wilson and Dowdy pleaded to aggravated assault with two years’ jail and two years’ probation.

Victims’ families objected to the plea deals as too lenient. Does anyone have additional information about the party or witnesses that could shed light on what happened that night?
