Kevin Michael Ross, 35, was shot and killed on June 8, 2015, in Chicago’s Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side. He was standing near the 7600 block of South Drexel Avenue when an unknown assailant approached and fired multiple shots. Ross was struck several times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death added to the city’s rising homicide total and is cited as part of calls for stronger interventions — from policing to community services — to address poverty, lack of opportunity, and other drivers of violence.
