On December 18, 2015, Robert L. Martinez, a 58-year-old Hispanic/Latino man, was shot and killed by responding law enforcement officers in Taos, New Mexico. Officers from the police and sheriff’s departments went to 325 Adobe Rd after a reported domestic abuse incident. Martinez was armed with a rifle and brandished the weapon at the officers, who then fired and fatally wounded him.

Investigators found that Martinez had placed the 911 call himself and disguised his voice to sound female. There are no suspects or arrests connected to his death; the incident is described as the result of the armed confrontation between Martinez and the responding officers. The investigation and review of the 911 call supported the officers’ account that Martinez’s armed, threatening behavior precipitated their use of force.

If anyone knew Martinez, witnessed the events at 325 Adobe Rd, or has further information about that night, please share what you know.
