Dometrique Shepherd was 37 when he was found shot to death in a drainage ditch in Belen, New Mexico, on October 13, 2015. Initial investigative focus led to an arrest of Adrien Meestas, but charges against Meestas were later dismissed for lack of probable cause.
Nearly two years later a female eyewitness contacted investigators, saying she had been with Shepherd, Meestas, and another man, Ronald Perez, the night Shepherd was killed. She told authorities Meestas shot Shepherd in the back of the head while Shepherd was driving, that Shepherd’s body was moved to the trunk and Perez allegedly shot him a second time. The witness also said Perez held her against her will, raped her, and threatened to kill her if she spoke.
Perez was arrested and charged with felony counts including rape, kidnapping, and tampering with evidence. Did anyone in Belen or the surrounding area have contact with Shepherd that night or information about the people named?
