Patrick Alfredo Gonzales was 17 when he was fatally shot in Tucumcari, New Mexico, on October 1, 2015. A junior at Tucumcari High School, he played football, basketball and baseball and was remembered by classmates and family for his friendly demeanor. The shooting happened inside a vehicle after 20-year-old Jordan Walker brought a .22-250 Remington rifle to show Patrick.

The Tenth Judicial District Attorney, after consulting other prosecutors, declined to file criminal charges, citing lack of physical evidence, no eyewitnesses and insufficient proof of intent; officials also noted Patrick’s reported grabbing and pulling of the barrel as a possible contributing action. In July 2017 Patrick’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit naming Jordan Walker, the firearm owners and the property owners, alleging negligence in handling and safety. A memorial website created by dual enrollment students honored Patrick’s memory.

Did anyone in Tucumcari know Patrick or have information about the events that night?
