On the morning of June 8, 2014, 16-year-old Victor Vialpando, a Hispanic male, was shot and killed in a parking lot in Española, New Mexico. Officers Jeremy Apodaca and Ritchie Trujillo responded just before 11 a.m. to a report of a suspicious person near Riverside Drive and Corlett Road. According to the Española Police Chief at the time, the officers encountered Victor and at some point he pointed a handgun at them; Officer Apodaca fired his duty weapon and Victor was transported to a hospital where he died.
The chief said the encounter was captured on a nearby surveillance camera and that officers tried to persuade Victor to drop the weapon before shots were fired. Does anyone have information about Victor, the scene that morning, or the surveillance footage?
