Zachary Steven Pace, 22, was fatally shot on the evening of July 31, 2019, at a gathering in a converted garage in Montrose, Colorado. According to accounts, Zachary had just ordered pizza and spoken with his father, who was on his way to pick him up, when a gunshot occurred. Initial reports said he was found alone, but eight other people were later acknowledged to have been present.
Zachary’s family say the investigation was mishandled: they contend the scene was initially treated as a suicide, attendees were allowed to leave, and no gunpowder residue testing was done on Zachary or the others. The recovered firearm reportedly had no fingerprints. The family has identified a specific partygoer as a suspect, citing a witness who saw a male running from the scene with what looked like blood on his clothing and a recording the family says supports that account; that person was not questioned until weeks later on an unrelated charge and denied involvement.
No arrests have been announced. Does anyone have information about that July 31 gathering or the people who were there?
