Michael I. Sandoval was 17 and a student at Vista Charter School when he died of gunshot wounds on July 24, 2019, in Montrose, Colorado. Born January 5, 2002, to Darren K. Sandoval and Lonnie Alires Sandoval, he is remembered by family and friends as a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend.

No arrests have been announced in connection with his death. Community memorials note that he was a victim of gun violence, and in 2022 a petition claimed that multiple witnesses had identified a potential suspect; that person has not been publicly named or charged. The Montrose Police Department has been urged by some residents for greater transparency as the investigation remains unresolved.

If anyone knew Michael, witnessed the shooting, or has information that could help the ongoing inquiry, please come forward.
