In the early morning hours of March 26, 2018, a disagreement inside a vehicle in Grand Junction, Colorado, ended the life of 43-year-old Eric Ludwick. Ludwick, a white male, was shot during an argument while he was driving and later died; the Grand Junction Police Department opened a homicide investigation.
Investigators quickly identified a suspect, Joseph Peace, who was arrested on March 28, 2018, at a residence in the 300 block of Weeping Willow. Peace was charged with second-degree murder; prosecutors also filed additional charges including Possession of a Firearm by a Previous Offender and Possession of a Defaced Firearm. Peace told authorities Ludwick reached for something in the car and he feared it might be a gun, so he shot. An autopsy found Ludwick had a moderate amount of methamphetamine in his system, and Peace said Ludwick had been having a serious meltdown earlier. After the shooting, Peace fled the scene.
Several key facts remain central to the case: the shooting occurred inside the vehicle during an argument, the only detailed account of events inside the car is Peace’s, and Ludwick’s toxicology showed methamphetamine. Does anyone have information about the moments before the argument or about either man’s movements that morning?
