Ryan Gerald Redifer, a 55-year-old Caucasian man, was shot on January 12, 2018, as he was entering his home in Paonia, Colorado. The gunshot left him with critical injuries and he spent nearly nine months hospitalized, at times unable to eat or perform basic functions without assistance.

Redifer’s condition never recovered; he died on September 1, 2018, in Grand Junction, Colorado, from the injuries sustained in the January shooting. His family reported that one of his kidneys was donated after his death.
