Randy Gene Baker, 59, was found dead in his Greeley, Colorado, home on August 16, 2017. Initially his death was thought to be accidental and possibly related to recent heart surgery; his wife, Kelly Lynn Baker, who discovered the body, suggested he might have fallen because of poor health. An autopsy, however, showed he had been shot, turning the case into a homicide investigation.
Detectives later developed evidence that those close to Baker were involved. Arrests were made in connection with a plot to have him killed; authorities say the motive was financial, with Kelly Lynn Baker listed as sole beneficiary on life insurance policies worth about $123,000 and wanting to sell the couple’s home despite Randy’s objections. Investigators allege Randy’s sister, Carol Lyn Baker, and Carol’s son, Kelly Robert Raisley, played roles in the conspiracy; Raisley was identified as the person hired to carry out the shooting and reportedly received payment and Randy’s motorcycle.
