On the late morning of April 25, 2017, Alberto Ruiz Jr., 33, was driving his work truck for Estes Valley Asphalt near 3057 29th St. in Greeley when his vehicle crashed. First responders found that Ruiz had sustained injuries inconsistent with a traffic collision; he had suffered a single gunshot wound to the head that proved fatal.
Investigators treated the case as a possible road rage incident after witnesses reported hearing a loud noise, described as an explosion, just before the crash and seeing a light-colored pickup speeding away. Surveillance footage captured an image of the suspect vehicle, described as a gold or tan 1990s or early 2000s Chevrolet or GMC pickup, possibly a Chevy S-10 ZR-2, but the license plate could not be read.
Family members, including his brother Art Ruiz, publicly appealed for information, stressing the impact on Alberto’s young children. No arrests had been made and the person or persons responsible remained at large. Does anyone have information about the suspect vehicle or that morning in Greeley?
